Dr. Robert George Obituary

Dr. Robert Glen George passed away peacefully in his home on March 1, 2024, in the presence of his family. He was born on December 25, 1939, to Glen Robert George and Cora Robbins George. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Donna Cochran, a daughter-in-law, Christina Marie George, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dr. Linda Olsen George and two sons; Daniel Olsen George and David Olsen George, four grandchildren; Taylor (John) Natale, Nicholas (Meghan) George, Robert Lucas George, and Lindsey Kevin Cottrell, four great-grandchildren; Waylon, Annistyn, Kimber, and Myles. He is survived by two brothers: Ronald (Sue) George and Estel (Deana) George, a brother-in-law, Russ Cochran, and several nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from Rensselear High School in 1957 and then attended Indiana State University, from which he received both his bachelor's and master’s degrees. He taught for three years at Gavit High School in Hammond, Indiana. Following that, he returned to full-time studies at Indiana University, where he earned his PhD, majoring in Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology and minoring in Research. He first taught at Stetson University in Florida, and then returned to Indiana State University, where he remained until his retirement in 2002 as Professor of Education. During his academic tenure, he served as a research consultant and author. He also served in leadership roles for many professional organizations. He presented papers nationally and internationally, for both his personal company and the university. Most of all, however, he considered teaching and mentoring students to be his most important calling.

A man of numerous interests and abilities, his early years prepared him to work in many fields as witnessed by the fact that he worked as a carpenter and a farmer, both occupations a part of his family heritage.

As a friend commented, Bob was always a good friend and neighbor, never a cross word, or mean spirit. He was thought the world of my most people. As his mother used to say, “You will miss me when I’m gone,” He will be missed.

Per his request, cremation was chosen and there will be no funeral. A small gathering will be held at a later date to share memories of Bob’s life. His was a life well lived and filled with love; He truly lived.
