Billy “Dean” Kennedy, 80, of Clinton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his residence Saturday evening, October 19, 2019.
He was born July 20, 1939, in Indianola, Iowa, to Velma Maxine Hasting and Dewey Thomas Kennedy, both deceased.
He was the eldest of 3 sons; brothers Robert Duane and Charles Thomas Kennedy are both deceased.
He was married to Pamela Kennedy and they recently celebrated 45 years together.
He is survived by 2 dearly loved sons, Matthew and Mark; 7 grandchildren; 2 step-grandsons; 2 great-grandsons; and 1 step-great-grandson.
He was the owner of Kennedy’s Water Conditioning of Clinton and was in the water conditioning business for 60 years.
Dean was a member of the Men’s Bowling League in Clinton, President of the Monday Night Church Bowling League for 20 years. He was also a member of the ABC for 40 years and was a Charter member of the Gowrie Iowa Golf Course.
He belonged to the JC’s of Gowrie, Iowa, the Elks Lodge of Plymouth, Indiana, and the Lions Club of Newport, Indiana.  He worked on the line as Statistician of the Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb for 39 years.
He was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church.
Dean was an avid golfer, bowler, Nascar fan, and was happiest working and growing cucumbers and tomatoes in his garden, which he gave away to his friends.
He collected memorabilia of the Hill Climb, banners, dash plaques, and hat pins.  He made several photo albums of the cars racing up the Newport Hill.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends far and wide.
Cremation was chosen.  A Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019, from 1 to 3 pm at the Newport Lions Club.
Frist Funeral Home was entrusted with his care and arrangements.

I am so sorry to hear of this family's loss. He was a great man, good friend, loving husband and father. To Matt,Mark ,and Pam: Great guy and will be sadly and lovingly missed.
