Mrs. Hoggatt (as she will always be to me) was one of my favorite teachers. I remember the "Mystery State" contest that she set up in the back of our classroom, spelling bees, and our day at the Mecca schoolhouse during the Covered Bridge Festival. Whenever I hear mention of the book Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, I will smell the cleaner they used on our desks at Rosedale, because of those days we would come in after recess and lay our heads down while Mrs. Hoggatt read to us. And, I can still see that exquisite penmanship on my spelling tests. Once, when I used a single line to cross two t's, she wrote, "I do this, too, and WE need to stop!" I confess I still do that from time to time, but never without thinking of Mrs. Hoggatt. I'm so glad she was my teacher, because I fell in love with learning in fourth grade, and I know that will serve me well for the rest of my life.

During this season of Advent may all your family know "the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” (Luke 1:78-79)

I just learned of Junie''''s death today and am deeply saddened by it. She has been on my mind the last couple of weeks, and I was hoping to call her. My memories of our youth together, the times we spent with each other, are very dear tio my heart. As children, our fasmilies were close and we had regular visits thrnoughout the year, and would exchange visits during the Summer, each spending one wekk at the other''''s home.

These are some of the most precious memories of our childhood together. I will miss her greatly.
