Joseph Wayne McDowell, 91, of Clinton, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at his residence with his family at his side.
He was born April 25, 1927, in Universal, to Virgil and Bertha Rippy McDowell.
Joe was retired from Alcan where he was a fork lift driver.  He was a US Army veteran, having served during World War 11.  He was a 1945 graduate of Clinton High School.  He was a member of the VFW #6653 and a member of the Clinton First United Methodist Church.
He love camping and traveling.  Although he loved traveling many places, his most enjoyable trip was to Alaska.
On December 1, 1950, he married Myrtle Edington and she survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, James and Gerald McDowell; 1 sister, Betty McDowell; 2 sisters-in-law, June McDowell and Edna “Pug” Edington.
Joe is survived by his wife, Myrtle; 2 daughters, Kathy (Mick) Burch of Clinton and Billi Jo McDowell of Chesterton, IN.; sisters-in-law, Bertha (Will) Rogers of Virginia Beach, Helen (Larry) Gambaiani of Rockville; Rebecca (Andy) Parsley of Florida; Jackie (Herb) Donald of Clinton; Mary Jane McDowell of Rockville; 2 grandchildren, Kasey (Jen) Burch of Chicago and Jessi (Jeff) Purcell of Clinton; 3 great-grandchildren, Owen Purcell, Reece Purcell and Theo Joseph Burch; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 10 am to 1 pm at Frist Funeral Home.  Military rites will be performed.  The funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Tom Barnett officiating.  Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Clinton First United Methodist Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

So sorry to hear about Joes passing, may God help you all through this time, and God Bless, I didnt know Joe, but worked with his Brother Gerald, who was also a great person and friend.

I am very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. One encouraging thought you might find comforting is found at John 5:28, 29. “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” God gives us this beautiful hope that he will soon resurrect our dead loved ones and we can see them again on a paradise earth! I hope this promise brings you comfort as it does me.
