John Edwin Ferguson
June 23, 1931 -September 16, 2019

John Edwin Ferguson died peacefully at Brown County Health and Living Center where he had resided for several years.  John was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to James and Elizabeth Ferguson. The family moved to Clinton, Indiana where John spent his youth and met the love of his life, mother of his children, and longtime friend, Betty Jo Ricauda.

John was a 1949 graduate of Clinton High School.  John had an active and full life, dedicating himself to working in several occupations.  In 1954 he joined the Indiana State Police where he eventually became a Lieutenant and Director of the Narcotics Division. During his time with the State Police he graduated first in his class at the FBI Academy and then became a member of the International Narcotics Officers Association, eventually rising to become its international president.  After retiring from the Indiana State Police, John engaged in several occupations, eventually leading him to a position with the international major construction company Bovis Lend Lease as a Director of Safety. John was known for his outspoken and fearless nature and would not hesitate to stop an entire operation if he found safety rules were not being followed.  As a result of his influence, Bovis created a company award for employees who follow exemplary safety standards. John’s last success was the construction of the Trump Tower in Chicago.

John was born into a large family, proud of their Scottish heritage. John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Jeanette Jones, Betty Archer and Mary Mack and his second wife, Ruth Hart Ferguson.  He leaves behind two brothers, James and Robert Ferguson.
John loved his family deeply.  One of his greatest joys was to have his entire family gather annually at his home on Lake Cordry in Brown County.  He especially cherished his time with his two daughters and their children.
John leaves behind his daughters, Michelle Tisdell (Gene), Shelley Sallee (Phil), his ex-wife Betty Ferguson, grandchildren Michael, Cara and Justin (Jessica) Evans and Evan (Kathryn) and Ethan (Mary) Sallee, and great- grandchildren, Toby and Savanah Evans and Lilith Sarsfield.
John was a 33rd degree Mason and may be honored with contributions made to:
