Ricky Lee Dowell, Sr., 63, passed peacefully in his home Sunday, December 15, after an illness. Ricky was born August 6, 1956 in Terre Haute to William M. "Bill" and Willadean Dowell and lived most of his life in Shepardsville where he met and later married the love of his life, Teresa "Sue" (Yates). Together they shared a beautiful marriage of 45 years in their hometown, where they loved and raised three children, Trina, Tessie, and Ricky, in a home they built together. He was always very proud of their children and told them always. Passing years brought sons-in-law David and Jason, then five beloved grandchildren, Davey, Joey, Ben, Lesli and Kaylee. Most recently his love grew to include Davey's bride, Molly. For him there was no greater joy than time with family, and his grandchildren brought him greatest joy.
Rick shared with Sue a general love of the outdoors and they could often be seen enjoying yardwork alongside one another, spending much time together in the woods hunting mushrooms and fishing, or merely sitting together on their front porch. He liked hunting deer and other animals, and he was a lifelong fisherman who spent many hours in a boat or on the bank reeling in dinner.
He was a former member of Shepardsville Fire Department. He spent his working years in the paper and plastic industries, most recently employed at Taghleef Industries. Rick was greeted on the other side by his parents, one sister, Linnie, brothers Randy, Tim, and Paul. Rick is survived, loved, and forever will be missed by his wife, Teresa "Sue, " daughters Trina (David) Francis, Tessie (Jason) Mackey, son Ricky, grandsons Davey (Molly), Joey, and Ben Francis, granddaughters Lesli and Kaylee Mackey, sisters Dee (Larry) Tackett, and Skyra Edington, many nieces and nephews, and a special friend and a niece Rob and Sandy Ramsey. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 18, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Frist Funeral home, with services following at 2:00 p.m

Teresa and family. I am so sorry to hear about Rick and I hope his illness was not a long one, but I know he is resting in peace and enjoying seeing the rest of his family on the other side. Words cannot express the sorrow and loss you are feeling right now but you will have so much to tell him when you meet again and will continue to share your love and laughter with one another. Prayers for your family in your time of sorrow.
