Edward Allen Payton, of Rockville, passed away at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.
He was born in Clinton on August 27, 1963, to  Kate Rigsby and Edward Payton.
Ed was a family man.  He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.  He loved hunting and being outside.  He was a retired plumber.  During his retirement he spent a lot of time serving in different areas.  He worked youth camps and enjoyed taking pictures at sporting events.  He was a South Vermillion Sports fan and was the photographer for the Wildcat Wrestling team.  Ed always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help others.
Ed was a member of the New Life Family Church.  He also was a member of Rangeline Conservation.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kate Rigsby and step-father, Dennis Bynum.
Survivors include his father, Ed (Jackie) Payton; his sons, Shaun (Hope) Payton of Marshall, IL, Jason (Sarah) Payton of Clinton,and Arin Witherell of Rockville;  daughters, Nicole (Michael) Bush of Clinton and Andrea Witherell of Terre Haute; brothers, Tony (Sheri) Payton, Bill (Misty) Payton, Shawn Bynum, and Dennis Bynum; sisters, Jessie (John) Iacoli and Mary (Bill) Blue; 6 grandchildren, Austin, Eli, Hannah, Jake, Blake, and Broxton.
Visitation for Ed will be on Monday, June 29, 2020 from 4 to 8 pm at Frist Funeral Home in Clinton.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 am at the funeral home with Pastor Shaun Farley officiating.  Burial will follow at Spangler Cemetery at Blanford.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Ed Payton scholarship fund.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

You will be missed by all of us. Ed took my daughter's senior pictures in 2007. They were beautiful. And presented them as her graduation gift. He didn't have a selfish bone in his body. RIP Eddie.

I loved Ed, he was a great man and a amazing photographer. I’m so honored to know him & I’m so honored he took some of my pics during football. Our deepest condolences to Ed’s family. He was a one of a kind guy, always with a smile and willing to help anyone with anything. Most of all, he was a great friend. No matter the distance or time between visits/talks we could always pick up like there hadn’t been a day passed. Rest well Ed. We will keep your family in our prayers. 🙏🏻

To all of Ed's family,
I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a great guy and an old friend. We went all through school together and played football together in the youth league. He was a kind and gentle christian and I am glad to have known him. Our prayers are will all of you.

Ed was the best neighbor we could have...for 17 years he watched my kids grow up and helped me in more ways to count. My entire family will miss the sound of him coming up over the hill on his 4 wheeler to come visit. I'll miss our talks on the front porch. A good man taken from this world too soon.

Ed was so good to my son during football and wrestling. He acted as a mentor for him. I am so grateful! I know Ed loves his kids and grandkids so much. I pray for all of you !❤️

myself and husband Jeff(BUD) got to know Ed from Missouri hunting he was such a kind and loving person so glad we got to know him. He loved his Family , Friends &Hunting .We know he will be missed so much. My all of you find peace in knowing you will see him again and know he was a very special person.
