OBITUARY FOR DANNY L. CAULKINS
Danny L. Caulkins, of Cloverdale, IN, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, February 27, 2025 at Owen Valley Rehab in Spencer, IN surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pekin, IL on June 11, 1945, to James David and Clytie (Wrestler) Caulkins.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen (Larson) Caulkins; his daughters, Marsha Darlington of Springfield, IL and Rachel (Mark) Wilson of Evansville, IN; sons, Jeremiah Caulkins of Greencastle, IN and Stephen Caulkins (Felicia Barger) of Cloverdale, IN; grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Conner and Evan Wilson, Jade Darlington, Hailey, Carson, and Mason Caulkins, Tysohn and Maelah Marlow and Paisley Warnock; his sister, Carolyn (Gary) Smith of Pekin, IL and his sister-in-law, Rose Caulkins of Manito, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lloyd and David, sisters Clytie O’Shea, Ruby Bohm, and Frances Harms, sister-in-law Doris Martin Caulkins, brothers-in-law Norman O’Shea, Gene Bohm, and James Harms, father and mother-in-law David and Leota Larson, brother-in-law Norman Larson, son-in-law Mel Darlington, Jr., and daughter-in-law Paula Harvey Caulkins.
Danny graduated from Forman Community High School, Manito, IL, Lincoln Christian College, Lincoln, IL, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry, Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, IN, where he obtained a Master’s of Divinity, and Indiana University with a Master’s of Library Science.
For 45 years, he served as pastor of churches in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, retiring in 2014. In Indiana he pastored at Shakamak Community Church in Jasonville, First Christian Church in Stilesville, First Christian Church in Bloomfield, and First Christian Church in Clinton. After retiring, Danny continued to preach at several area churches as a fill-in pastor as well as conducting numerous weddings and funeral services. He was affectionately known by many as “Pastor Danny.” Danny was a member of Soul Harvest Church in Cloverdale.
Danny farmed for many years near Easton, IL with his family and father-in-law, David Larson. Over the years they grew corn, soybeans, wheat, and melons and raised chickens, hogs, and cattle. In his farming experience, he began with a more primitive style of irrigation, the water winch, to the advance circle system.
Memorial services will be held at Soul Harvest Church, Cloverdale, IN, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with visitation from Noon-1:00pm EST. with funeral service at 1:00pm EST. with Brian DeVore officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Forest City, Illinois at 1:00pm CST on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
