David Lee Helt, 77, of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, passed away on September 13, 2023, after a brief illness. David was born to Floyd H. Helt, Sr., and Ruth Davis Helt in Clinton, Indiana on April 22, 1946. David is survived by his life partner, Steve Anderson, of Rollings Meadows, Illinois, a very special sister-in-law Joyce Helt-McMullen of Rockville, Indiana, nephew, Troy Helt and his wife Suzanne Helt, of Terre Haute, Indiana, niece Tonya Crenshaw and her husband Bruce Crenshaw, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and great nieces Rachel Helt, of Omaha, Nebraska, Taylor Crenshaw, and her husband Chris Vawter, of Frankfort, Indiana, and Kylie Carmack and her husband Austin Carmack, of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by his three feline kids: Snogie, Rosie, and Mr. Storm.
David was a 1965 graduate of Clinton High School, a 1968 graduate of Indiana State University (Bachelor of Science), and a 1978 graduate of DePaul University (Master of Science in Taxation). He also earned his CPA. After graduation from Indiana State University, David moved to Chicago, where he began his professional career in accounting. During this time, David served in the United States Army Reserves for six years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Floyd H. Helt, Jr. and Larry O. Helt.
David became involved in many local and national animal rescue organizations. David and Steve became heavily involved in local cat rescues. This was the most enjoyable part of David’s life.
A memorial celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Frist Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm EST, October 7, 2023, at Helt’s Prairie Cemetery, Hillsdale, Indiana with Pastor Bill Felts officiating.
