Dorothy Cutler Obituary

Dorothy Jane Van Horn Cutler Known locally as Jane Cutler, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023, at the Clinton Gardens.

She was born July 10, 1940, in Clinton, Indiana to Austin Van Horn and Ann Giovanini Van Horn.

She grew up in Danville, Illinois and attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Schlarman Catholic High School. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago and Indiana State Teachers College (ISU). After her marriage she returned to Illinois and was employed in the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office and became quite active in the local Republican Party holding various offices. Her great interest of such affiliations carried over to present time as she became active in the Vermillion County, Indiana Republican Party and was a staunch member on the national level as well. Returning to Clinton, Indiana in the 1980’s, she became employed at Rosenblatt’s Clothing, after it’s closing, she was employed as a receptionist in the parish office of Sacred Heart Church.

She is survived by her only sibling, Fred Van Horn, sister-in-law Saundra Van Horn and cherished niece, Lisa Van Horn, all of Chandler, Arizona. Also surviving are her childhood friends, Judy and Nelson Christian of Georgetown, Illinois, and several special cousins she enjoyed.

She was preceded by her parents and three fur babies, (cats): Thomas, Strawberry, and Jock. Also, her precious friends, Kathy Ross-Smith, and Father Joe Villa.

Jane, having such an outgoing personality and love of people, acquired many friends through the years who showed deep concern and caring for her during this recent illness. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Women’s Club, Clinton Public Library Group and helped diligently with the Vermillion Count Food Pantry known for her recruitment of volunteers to help with such a needed program.

Special thanks of great gratitude to Addie Smith-Thompson and Hailey Smith-Christenson whom Jane considered as her adopted daughters, for the unending help to Jane through the years, and to cousins Bob and Kathy Baird, who have been guardian angels.

Jane: The Lord has been the author of your earthly life and this chapter is finished. Now, a new chapter will begin for you with Him in heaven. – Donna
