Ernest R. Cottrell, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at his home.
He was born in Price, Utah on September 22, 1944, to Joseph Cottrell and Lois Hixon Cottrell. Ernie was raised in Clinton, Indiana area. On June 24, 1964, he married Judy Kelley, also of Clinton. They would have been married 59 years this June. They raised their son in Danville, IL before returning to the Clinton area. Ernie was an avid golfer, baseball player, and coach. He loved his Chicago Cubs and Bears. Ernie was a Master Mason at the Jerusalem Lodge #99 out of Danville, IL. Ernie most loved spending time with family, friends, and his beloved dog Zoie.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Joseph Cottrell Jr.
Those surviving Ernie are his wife Judy of Terre Haute, son Brent Cottrell (Kelly DeCurtis-Cottrell) of Terre Haute; three grandchildren Ryan Cottrell (Brittany), Bradley Cottrell (Mara) and Tyler Cottrell; six great grandchildren Chandler, Mia, Avery, Jace, Johnara, and Danny; special niece Ashlee Sherey (Jason), great niece and nephews Jaylee, Thomas, and Nolan Sherey; his Daughter-in-law’s mother Maggie DeCurtis; former daughter-in-law Lesli Wells; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are his wonderful friends Larry Woody, Harold Wesley, Dale York, and Harold Tharp.
Visitation will be held at Frist Funeral Home on Thursday May 18, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. followed by a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Service will be at Frist Funeral Home on Friday May 19, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
