Helena L. Shoemaker known locally as “Bea” passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Clinton Gardens in Clinton, Indiana.
She was born to Joseph Capps and Mary Murphy-Capps on May 5, 1946, in Clinton, Indiana.
The youngest of eight children, Bea grew up in Mecca, Indiana, attended Mecca High School and had various jobs at an early age. She became well known throughout the area for her work ethic, honesty and in-depth cleaning and cooking talents. Bea worked throughout the years in various restaurants, companies and for individuals either housekeeping or doing gourmet cooking. She was employed at Eli Lilly and Union Hospital Clinton via Terre Haute Building Maintenance. She also worked at Sacred Heart Church as a housekeeper for the resident priest. Bea was baptized into the Catholic faith by the late Fr. Joe Villa when he was in residence there.
Bea was predeceased by her parents, and seven siblings: Billy Joe Capps, Patrick Capps, John Earl Capps, David Capps, Margaret “Peggy” Fisher, Catherine Curry, and Sharon Whitehead.
Left to remember her caring and love are her three sons: Jeff Shoemaker of Texas, Dale Shoemaker of Mecca, IN. and Brad Shoemaker (Brooke) of Terre Haute, IN., six grandchildren: Ashley Shoemaker-Woods, Taylor Mielke, Jeffery “JC” Shoemaker, Haylee O. Vivian, Carson Shoemaker and Cooper Shoemaker; eight great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Griffin, Nash, Karter, Kamber, Korie, Leni, and Kennedy and she adored them all. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends she cherished.
Persons will be received at visitation at Frist Funeral Home on Saturday December 7, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with prayer service conducted by Father Joby Puthussery at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
