Frist Funeral Home
Hermine Genevieve Blackburn, having lived 99 years on this side of heaven, entered into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Clinton Gardens following complications of a fall at home. She was born on July 10, 1923, to Thomas F. and Grace R. Coleman Rigsby in Cedar Park (Centenary) Indiana.
Hermine (pronounced ‘her-MEEN’), spent her days worshiping and praying, tending in her flower beds, talking to her bird Mimi, and keeping a close tab on her neighbors.
Hermine married Lester H. Catterson on June 14, 1941. They were part owners in the family business, Rigsby & Catterson on Main Street in Clinton from 1945 – 1970 where they sold furniture, appliances, and marine supplies. Lester preceded her in death on June 15, 1978.
Hermine would later admit that she fell in love a second time in the vegetable aisle at the grocery store when she met Wayne L Blackburn, whom she later married on June 10, 1981. While she was never fortunate enough to have children of her own, she gained three sons when she married Wayne: Michael, Gary, and Randy. They enjoyed many wonderful years together traveling and enjoying each other’s company until his passing on September 1, 1999.
Preceding Hermine in death were her parents, two husbands, brothers Max L Rigsby, Raymond F Rigsby and his wife Ruth, brother-in-law Daymer Robertson, stepsons Gary L Blackburn and Randy L Blackburn, and nephews Tom Rigsby and Wayne Lee Robertson.
Hermine is survived by her sister Evelyn Robertson (companion Carl), stepson Michael W Blackburn (wife Nancy), daughter-in-law Tina M Blackburn, grandchildren Anthony W Blackburn, Michael J Blackburn (wife Reina), Robert L Blackburn (wife Kenzie), and Angela M Garzolini (husband Sean), nieces Lisa Chubrilo (husband Mike) and Pat Rigsby, and several great grandchildren.
A special thanks goes to the staff of Clinton Gardens and Union Hospital ICU for their assistance in her final weeks for their care and compassion. Hermine also wanted to thank Tina and Lisa for their years of help and support.
Visitation will occur Thursday, April 20th from 10:00 to noon at Frist Funeral Home in Clinton. The funeral service will be held the same day beginning at noon with Rev. W. Paul Harrison officiating. Graveside service will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton.
