James Short Obituary

Jim “Hubert” short, 92 of Hillsdale, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday November 24, 2022, at the Gibson Family Hospice Care in Terre Haute.

He was born in Hillsdale to Ted and Margie Short on October 17, 1930.  He graduated from Hillsdale High School, then enlisted in the army.  Jim was sent to Korea to serve his country from November 1948 to November 1952.

On November 1, 1951, Jim married Hi (Pae) “Peggy” Short in Pusan, Korea.  Peggy Preceded Jim in death on November 24, 2009.

Jim retired from AT&T (previously Indiana Bell) in 1991. Jim’s hobbies through the years were bowling on a mixed league at Rockville Lanes, every summer tending the garden, golfing with his buddies, traveling on Turner bus tours with Peggy and friends and watching his St. Louis Cardinals and other sports on tv. Later in life, he enjoyed the grandkids. His memberships were Trinity Church and Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving is a son, Tommy Joe Short (Julie), of Indianapolis, a daughter Angela Walworth of Clinton and his closest Friend, Alfreda Thomas of New Goshen.  Also surviving are Jim’s grandchildren, Kristen Huizenga (Carl) of Crown Point, IN., Alyssa Beasley (Adam) of Indianapolis, and Travis J. Short of Indianapolis, IN., and his great grandchildren Henry and William Huizenga and Calvin and Cora Leigh Beasley.

Jim “Hubert” had four brothers:  Robert (deceased), Leon of Centenary, Kenny of Russellville, Arkansas, and Ronnie Gene (deceased); three sisters: Dorothy Pearman (deceased), Rena Jones of Bloomingdale and Donna Kitchens of Pelham, Alabama. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law Norman Jones and Tommy Kitchens and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There are no visitation or services per James’ request but there will be a Graveside service with Military honors on Saturday December 3, 2022, at 1:00p.m. at Helt’s Prairie Cemetery with Pastor Michael Bennett officiating.

Jim loved the Lord and has joined Peggy and Tony (a still born son) in Heaven.
