Janet Mae Smith, 76, of Terre Haute (formerly of Clinton) passed away on Wednesday November 8, 2023, at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice in Terre Haute.

She was born in Mecca, Indiana on September 13, 1947, to Joe Barushak and Vivian Myers.

Those preceding Janet in death are her parents, husband Merril Smith, daughter Joy Beaty, brother John Barushak, sisters Jo-Ann Barushak and Carla Wilmes, and great-granddaughter Paisley Rowe.

Janet is survived by her son Andy Smith (Sharon) of Blanford, daughters Susan Whitaker (Rich) of Montezuma, and Jeri Rowe (Daniel) of Terre Haute, brothers Fred Barushak (Penny) of Fairview, and Bob Barushak (Sue) of Centenary; grandchildren Amanda Baysinger, Beth Emory (Ben), Ryan Smith (Carli), Drew Smith, Brad Wilcox (Jordan), Johnny Smith (Cheyann), Joe Plew (Kelly), Danny Rowe (Abby), Harley Beaty, and Cole Beaty; twenty-two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Janet was a member and former president of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Janet loved spending time with all her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her.

Visitation will be at Frist Funeral Home on Monday November 13, 2023, from 11:00 until 1:00pm. Service at 1:00pm with Rev. Lynn Dunning officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
