Jessica S. Johnson, 37, of Avon, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, in her home.

She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 1, 1988, to Charles “Steve” and Sue Ellen (Kelley) Johnson.

Jessica was a secondary education teacher in Avon, Indiana. She taught in Brownsburg, Avon and multiple school districts in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Preceding Jessica in death is her grandparents, Charles E. and Sue Ann (Davis) Johnson and Richard L. Kelley and Caroline Sue (Hensley) Kelley; uncles, Robert A. Johnson and Michael Kelley; aunts, Leanna Kelley and Stephanie Kelley, and cousins, Michael Kelley Jr., Nancy Kelley, Kathy Kelley, Chastity Kelley and Charity Kelley and her beloved dog Ziggy.

Those left behind to remember Jessica are her parents; uncles, Chad Johnson (Tina), Mark Kelley (Brenda), Mitch Kelley, and Matt Kelley (Kathy); cousins, Mark Kelley III (Robin), Amanda Smith (Ryan), Ben Kelley (Gretchen Link), Mitch R. Kelley (Sarah Mae), Sarah Kelley Dean (Tim), Michael Kelley, Madalynn Kelley, Kierra Kelley, Kaya Kelley, Lilliann Kelley,  and Annie Smith.

Jessica graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 2007 then continued her education attending Indiana University of Bloomington graduating with high honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 2011.

She loved going to museums, reading books, playing vinyl records, doing Yoga and Zumba. Jessica enjoyed silent movies, hour long phone calls with Gram K and walks with her mom, sending cards, driving her 1966 Valiant that she and her dad painted together and entering her 2009 Dodge Challenger in car shows. She also enjoyed gathering with family and enjoying laughter and being together.

Jessica volunteered at WFYI where she read articles for the visually impaired, American Red Cross, Avon Washington Township Public Library, Reading Boot Camp in Clinton and Fowler Park in Vigo County for 20 years. She believed in love, positive thinking, education, family and being your own person.

Visitation will be at Frist Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Duane Caperton officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
