Joyce Ilene Godbey, 76, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021, at her residence.
She was born on November 11, 1944, to George and Norma Carlson.
She was the third of five children. Her siblings are: Ronnie (Julie) Carlson, Phyllis (Larry) Cobble, both deceased, and little sister, Marlene Carlson.
At the sweet age of 16, she met and later married the love of her life, Dallas Godbey. They had many happy years together. They shared a love of horses, motorcycles, and classic cars. Joyce was a good cook, making from scratch noodles and pies. Homemade jelly was her specialty. She was a loving and caring wife and mother. After 2 years of marriage, along came Julie Ann.
In her working career, she followed the footsteps of her mother. She was a cook at Valley Preschool, Clinton Nursing Home, and Rockville Nursing Home.
In her retirement years,she had fun on Mondays playing Canasta with the girls (sisters-in-law), Annalou, Pat, and her daughter Julie. Last year, after the loss of her big sister Phyliss, Joyce became depressed. She really missed her.
She loved the Lord and went to Trinity Church for many years.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Mike (Pete) Davis; granddaughter, Rachel Davis; and grandson, Dallas Davis.
She will be terribly missed.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 11 am at Shirley Cemetery in Universal. Pastor Gary Burns will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Shirley Cemetery.
