Martin Shepard, 90, of Clinton passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 25, 2026.
He was born in Clinton, Indiana on September 25, 1935, to John Shepard and Lura Cooke Shepard who precede Martin in death. Also preceding him is his wife, Esther Shepard; son, Michael Gossett; and brothers, Harlan, Bert, Wayne, Gene, and John Shepard.
Martin was a graduate of Clinton High School class of 1954. He played baseball while in high school and in his senior year he was voted Most Valuable Player. He played semi-pro baseball in Fairview and Blanford as well and continued playing until he married Esther Doan on March 25, 1966. Martin was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country from 1958 to 1960. He retired from the United States Postal Service where he worked as a mail carrier. Martin loved to go antiquing and was an avid mushroom hunter. He enjoyed spending time working out on his property.
Those left behind to remember Martin is his son, Bob Gossett of Clinton; daughters, Marti Cobble (Larry) of Clinton and Debbie Ackerly (Thom) of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Frist Funeral Home on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Rissler officiating. Military honors prior to service. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
