Patrick E. Hawkins, 65, of Newport, Indiana went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 12, 2025, while sleeping peacefully in his cabin that he loved. Patrick not only served his family daily but also served the United States as a Combat Engineer attached to the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army and again as Boiler Technician aboard the U.S.S. Spiegel Grove in the United States Navy.
Aside from his service to God, nothing was more important to Patrick than his family. Patrick loved to watch his granddaughters play in the yard and he loved to sit and listen to them talk about their day. Patrick was the self-appointed “taste-tester” whenever any of the granddaughters or Jodi cooked/baked, and he took this role seriously!
Patrick knew how to take joy in the simple things in life, watching deer, sitting in the quiet of the morning/evening, going to auctions with his brother Tim, or getting his hair cut by his son. Patrick had the rare ability to find the greatest value in what most people take for granted.
Above all, Patrick loved and was devoted to our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave him life eternal and who Patrick honored in every moment of his life.
Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Jane Hawkins, whom he loved and shared 30 years of marriage with, parents Elwood “Woody” and Zintka Marie Hawkins, sister Darlene Olsen, brother Elvin “Sonny” Hawkins, and stepson Carl Graham.
Patrick is survived by his son and daughter-in-love John and Jodi Hawkins, two granddaughters Autumn and Julie Hawkins; brother Tim (Susan) Hawkins; sisters Brenda (Art) Deibert, and Peggy Hawkins Bermudez; nephew Jimmy Bermudez and the mother of his son and dear friend Lori (Steve) Deck.
Patrick is also survived by his stepdaughter Cortney Bodkins, two grandsons: Gavin and Elijah Bodkins; stepdaughter Lora (Charlie) Pennington, three granddaughters: Erica Craft, Jessica (Jon) Wilson, and Amanda (Alex) Allaby; Stepson Jim (Elisa) Graham, four grandsons: Jeremy, Justin, Adam, and Kenny Graham, and two granddaughters: Audrey and Miranda Graham; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends whom he loved.
A memorial service will be held at the Newport Church of God on Sunday July 27, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. with military honors prior to the service.
