Phillip R. Hutson, 78 of St. Bernice passed away on Friday December 1, 2023, at his home.

He was born in Vermillion County, Indiana on April 23, 1945, to Alva Hutson and Chris Kyle.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Virginia Capps, and father-in-law Billy Joe Capps.

Phil leaves behind his wife Betty (Capps) Hutson of St. Bernice, daughter Misty Hutson Payton of St. Bernice, grandsons Damon Russell and Dalton Payton, step grandson Gage Payton and adopted grandson Holden Southard, and several nieces and nephews.

Phil and Betty were married on March 22, 1969, in Blanford. He retired from General Motors and had been working for the last 17 years for Vermillion County Veterans Services. Phil was the Commander of the St. Bernice Legion Post 108, a member of the VFW Post 6653 and Jerusalem Post 99 F & AM.

Visitation will be at Frist Funeral Home on Thursday December 7, 2023, from 10:00am – 1:00pm. Service at 1:00 with Rev. Garrett Lee officiating. Military Honors will be performed. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Chrisman, Illinois.
