Rodney Vinson Obituary

Rodney Vinson, 57, Terre Haute Indiana, passed away on February 3, 2025. Rodney was born on March 14, 1967, to Leonard Vinson and Anna Stewart -Brown in Terre Haute.

After graduating from South High school, Rodney began employment at Terre Haute Housing Authority and retired after 32 years. Rodney also had a career as a professional heavyweight boxer for over 10 years. He enjoyed fighting (any time, any place) and loved being in the ring. Rodney was hard working and had a charismatic personality. His smile was contagious and that voice unforgettable! Rodney knew no strangers and if you didn’t know him, he made sure you did. Rodney was a “country boy” at heart and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He could sit for hours watching those fish jump, talking to them along the way. (Rodney swore that if you talked to the fish, they’d go back and get their family - the big ones!) And if he saw any deer while driving, he would try and count them all and he’d usually tell you to take a picture. He just loved their beauty. Rodney was also known for his barbecue and grilling out. He enjoyed sitting outside and cooking on the grill and often fixing his famous ribs with his “special sauce” for family and friends.

Rodney is survived by his wife; Jana, Children; Roderick (Lurah), Chelsi (Billy), Marissa (Bobby), Kiera “Baby Girl” (Joseph), Ryan, and Jazarian; Grandchildren (who knew him best as “PAPA”); Kian, Kanye, Joseph Jr., Jamariyae, Eliyahana, Zerenity and Alie; Siblings; Bernard (BD), Sara, Sheila & Bobby Lee (Donisha), and special friends; Mark Wilcox (Skane), Kent Aycuff, Brian Cornes (Cornbread) and Lamont Johnson.

He was proceeded in death by his mom, Anna Stewart-Brown, Aunt Monzella Grady, Uncle Frankie Grady, Brothers; Philip “Hubba” Vinson and Carlos Vinson.
