Sandra S. (Garwood) Abernathy Obituary

Sandra S. Abernathy, 83, of Clinton, IN, passed away peacefully at home on January 6th, 2024.

She was born in Danville, IL on January 11, 1940, to Albert and Farrell (West) Garwood.

Preceding her in death were her parents, sister Janice Eckel and brother, Paul Becker.

Sandy is survived by her two sons, Doug Carpenter of Montezuma and R. Thomas Carpenter of Delta, CO. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Angie (Jason) Roehm and three great- grandchildren, Ashlyn Roehm, Addison Roehm, and Jackson Roehm, all of Liberty Township, OH. Additional survivors include her brother Larry (Sarah) Garwood of Louisville, KY, sister-in-law Phyllis Becker of Carlin, IL, several nieces and nephews, and special caretaker, Kristy Decker of Terre Haute.

Sandy was passionate about helping others in her role as a State Farm associate in Vermillion County, IN for much of her life. In her free time, you could find her outside working in her garden, spending time with friends from Daily Chapel, and laughing over a good meal with her classmates from Cayuga High School class of 1958. She found great joy in visiting with her family, especially her great- grandchildren. Her sass and infectious laugh will be missed by all who loved her.

Visitation will be at Frist Funeral Home Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Service will be at 12:00pm with Pastor Adam Coffman officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Parke-Vermillion Humane Society in memory of Sandra.
