William Vitaniemi, 83, of Clinton, died June 12, 2022, at 3:50 PM in his residence. He was born July 12, 1938, in Clinton, to William and Anna Secoy Vitaniemi.
He attended Glendale Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Sonja Natale on August 30, 1958, in Clinton. He retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube Steel Mill after 42 years of service. He was a former member of Chesterton Horseshoe Club. He also loved Packers football, Cubs baseball, playing bocce ball, fishing, hunting, gardening, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, David, and George; and one sister, Diane Silotto.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja; three sons, William Jr. and Jane, Tony and Karen, and Kerry and Sherry; grandchildren, Adam and Dianelle, Jacob and Keirston, Erin, Andrea and Luke, Josh and Brittany, Tony Jr., Kristen and Chris, and Kylie and Ian; great-grandchildren, Max, Leon, Atticus, Naomi, Lily, Brayden, Carson, Easton, Flynn, Haelyn, Brynn, and Kasen; and two sisters, Darlene Hoggatt and Janice and Merrill Bonebrake.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Frist Funeral Home. Services will be 2:00 PM on Friday with Reverend Cheryl Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
