Yale W. Yager, 84, of Clinton, IN, passed away on Monday, October 28, at Providence Health Care, surrounded by family. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 27, 1940, to Clark and Elizabeth (Betty) Yager, who preceded him in death. Yale grew up in the Omaha area, graduated from Ralston High School in 1958, earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1963, and an MBA from Indiana State University in 1975. He moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1963. In 1965, he married Orthanna K. Myers, who survives. Together, they made their home in Terre Haute until 1978 before moving to Clinton.
Other survivors include two daughters, Melanie Yager (Tony Matarazzo) of Surprise, AZ, and Kristy Bonomo (Louis Joe) of Sunbury, OH; six grandchildren, Becky Foltz Everette (Ryan) of Omaha, NE, Keaton Bonomo and Preston Bonomo of Columbus, OH, Kristina Foltz of Goodyear, AZ, Nate Foltz of Gilbert, AZ, and Britton Bonomo of Sunbury, OH; one great-granddaughter, Annalise Everette; one sister, Karen Harris (John Thomas) of Lincoln, NE; one brother-in-law, Karl W. Myers of Clinton; one sister-in-law, Lois Myers of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.
Yale loved spending time in nature, hiking in many local parks, bicycling with friends, and participating in many fundraising runs. He completed the Chicago Marathon four times, the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon numerous times, and the Ride Across Indiana (RAIN) with bicycling friends. He also enjoyed traveling, including trips to Spain, Hawaii, Alaska, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Panama, and cruises in the Caribbean.
Yale was employed by Commercial Solvents Corporation for 13 years, Velsicol Chemical Company for two years, and Eli Lilly Corporation from 1978 until his retirement in 1999. Following his retirement, he remained active in several part-time positions. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 86 in Terre Haute, where he served as Worshipful Master; served on the Board of Directors of Covered Bridge Girl Scout Council; served as Associate Guardian of Bethel 5 Jobs Daughters; served on the Board of Directors for Clinton Public Library; served on the Board of Directors of Valley Professionals Health Care; was a former member of Clinton Lions Club; and was an active member of Clinton Optimist Club. He was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be at Wayside United Methodist Church on Saturday November 9, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Jeffers officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow at Bono Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Yale and Orthanna Yager Scholarship Fund at Western Community Foundation, Union Health Foundation (Clinton) or Clinton Public Library.
